Quick CNC carves: Modern Bottle Opener

This quick carve demonstrates how easy it can be to leverage a CNC like the LongMill in combination with CAMLab and CNCjs in order to bring together a polished, multi-material project with ease. The design shown is Aleks' re-imagining of the classic aluminum bottle opener that many DIY CNC'ers turn to as their first practical test to see if their CNC is capable of cutting soft metals like aluminum. This design twist brings round-over handles and CNC'd dowels into the mix to make for a more polished end product.

CAMLab is a simple but powerful 3D CAM program that’s great for beginners who want to do 2D, 2.5D, and 3D milling using STL files and CNCjs is an interface software that's common for CNC control and among LongMill owners.

The bottle opener design came from Fusion 360 as an exported STL file which CAMLab accepts as input. This is a file type that is almost globally supported by the majority of modelling design software.
